I have found that most times the vacuum wiper motors just need a good cleaning. In fact I just cleaned one today. It was stuck and would not move at all. If you disassemble them being carefull not to tear the two gaskets most of the time they can be fixed. Always have an extra one that has not been disassembled for reference. the most complicated part is the rocker valve under the oval shaped cover. the leather flap inside can be cleaned with solvent and coated with a high vacuum silicon grease. The grease is the key. Apply it liberally to all mating surfaces and to the flap. The grease is very sticky and will not get sucked into the vacuum source. When I am done the wipers work better than when new. I also think that vacuum operated wipers can account for poor engine performance. As they get older and the hose starts to leak you can have a lean condition at the carburator. People are intimidated by this simple device. You would be suprised at how easy they are to make work again. You will be very proud of yourself for fixing them plus you will have saved a lot of money.
