yes the float is brass. but the brass the float is made of has become brittle and has five cracks about a half inch long on one side of the float. the other side seems to be okay. soldering will be a pain but can be done. I just did'nt want to change the weight to much. I've got three brass gas tank floats that are good but I'll save that for last as they are about 3/8ths shorter than the float but would work in a pinch. (resolder the tab) Dave.
