Hi David,
I cant recall the change year, sometime in the late 50s, (57 or so) but the M37B1 trucks all had the door mounted spare. They reinforced the cabs and added a spacer block under the front drivers side spring to help with the extra weight.
Its cool looking but seems like a real pain to deal with.
