I have cut firewood for home heat for about 40 years. One memorable time, about 30 years ago, I was cutting wood regularly with a friend. He was so impressed with my Stihl 045 that he went out and bought one. They were about $500 then, and for this guy to spend $5.00 was a real squeeze. Anyway, we went to our favorite spot, full of old buckskin tamaracks, 24" to 30" at the butt, fire-killed many years ago. I went up and dropped a tree and proceeded to cut it into firewood lengths. After 20 minutes or so, I looked down by the road and saw my friend fervently cranking on his new saw, showing obvious frustration. I shut my saw off and walked down to see what the problem was. I asked to see the saw, laid it on it's side, and asked him if he had put gas in it (duh).
Rather indignantly he said Yes he had. Just to check I unscrewed the gas filler cap, laid it over slightly to let some of the gas pour out, and here came bar oil. He had filled the gas tank with bar oil and put gas in the bar lube tank. To this day, I can get him going by reminding him of that day. :)
