The question got me thinking if maybe this is is a good application for a high-end synthetic oil. Anybody tried it? The trouble with cheap portable generators is they run constantly at 3600 rpm and they have unsleeved aluminum cylinders. For the most part, the whole machine is disposable, so when the cylinder wears out, you have to junk it and buy a new one. Since they only take about a quart of oil, it wouldn't cost much to try the expensive stuff in one. If you just use it for emergencies and the odd camping trip, it probably doesn't matter, but if you use it for construction work or for 2 weeks straight in elk camp, it'd be nice to get a bit more life out of it.
