We have one of the copper colored versions. My grandfather who was a Homelite dealer in the 50's took in in as a trade. Missing the recoil starter but very clean, we keep it as a conversation piece.
They were called blade saws and Dad said they worked suprising well. I would think sawdust would pack in the middle on a large log but I've never seen one work personally.
I don't know about Sears selling them as Dad said a local ford tractor dealer sold them here. He said he thought they made a chainsaw version too.
Carb kits are the killer as everyone I've talked to said they are non existant.
