The irony of our company is they tried to open a plant in China and it failed. China mandates the floor plan of the buildings(size and open 2 story) that US companies put up. mMndate ONLY new equipment(nothing used OR rebuilt allowed). Doesn't take a rocket scientist to see why a country would do this because the building is now theirs when they pulled out per the agreement they signed. Care to guess how much "profit" that took?
We keep chugging along with our older equipment and they get all new. Don't get me wrong, I like a lot of the older stuff better than the new but they refuse to keep up a good maintinance /rebuild program that is reasonable. I guess they don't care because if you make something out of tolerance they scrap you for it and get the tax write off.
It's just so sad to see short term greed ruining this countries economy. We make more than the average shop but we have tighter tolerances and produce more parts/hr than most all shops. The reason things get done and out the door..right.... is not because of all the supervisors, job chasers and all the other "extra overhead", it's because of the guys on the floor that average about 20 years experience now. That's something they take for granted and it bites them hard when they try to open a plant somewhere.
I find it amazing the attitude that we are so replacable and they are so valuable. Lord knows you'd have a hard time finding someone else to stand over you and say work harder ;)
