Looks like a 3/4 ton WC rear, so more likely 1942-up.
You would want the bigger, later differential size, but I believe either size would fit in that housing, the John Zentmeyer booklet had the fitting info.
You'll get rid of the offset diff and short / long shafts too, which has to be a bonus.
