I was able to bend the spring tab ever so slightly. It gave me about 6.3 volts at a high idle measured at the battery. The contacts had a nice blue arching as you said. The ammeter now never shows a charge. I then put a healthy load (lights , heater) on to see if the voltage contacts would close fully. They did not close but the ammeter showed a healthy discharge and battery voltage dropped to 5.5 volts. Does this sound right? thanks again,
