... set my boot on fire one day with a big piece of slag from sloppy MIG welding. Also set a good size fire in some items nearby another time, and I could have had a problem if I had not noticed it pretty soon. Fire extinguishers are handy items to have - get the big economy size ones!
And don't forget that the welding flame throws off a heckuva lot of UV light - seen some painful cases of sunburn from long welding jobs without proper clothes.
