I pulled that exact same part out of my WM300 axle housing, Not sure if there's enough room in the diff for that to be bouncing around. When I stood the housing on end, that part ended up on the floor. It's now in my failed part museum. I think this problem is more common than you think. Check to make sure the pin is deformed enough prevent it from working its way out.
