I could tell you a little secret about antispatter, but unless you know the difference between a welder and a weldor I'd have to kill you, and I bein old do tire out so I can't be killin a lot of people any more.
Take all those spraycans of crap and stick em on a shelf. Go buy a gallon of slipclay from the ceramics shop and a paintbrush. Paint clay on anyplace you don't want weld sticking and let it dry, then do your welding. When you're done wash the clay and any spatter off. That's how we did it in the 70s before all the crap got in spraycans and it still works.
As far as what's in the gel, damned if I know, probabnly a combination of vasalene, virginoil and goose crap. 1 jar will last the average garage shop a lifetime and it ain't expensive. Dip the tip while it's hot and redip when you clean the crap out of the cup.
It also comes in handy to keep bolts and nuts from sticking together when you weld on one and not the other as long as you don't weld across the two.
