First replace the wire to the hot side of the brake switch. Then disconnect the wire from the brake switch and the tail light. Disconnect it at the brake switch. Then try again. If the lights still dim then you may have a bad brake switch. They are known to fail and brake fluid can get into the switch side of the unit.
I would replace the wire to the tail light anyway just to make sure.
