David when I was stationed on the Russian front (Alaska} I worked on some army snow tracked vehicles called a nodwel. They had flat beds for cargo and ford gas engines 302 or 312. I only drove them around the motor pool so don't know how well they did in the deep snow, I saw one sitting along the highway in north Idaho somewhere a few years ago.
