Id have to agree with Bill. It sounds like the new member to your family may have been hit on the snout when he was younger.
Keep on trying as perseverance will pay off! You're on the right trail. He has to break a habit that has been formed. Then comes new habits that you don't want :)
He sounds like a perfect pal to hang out in the garage or hop in the trucks.
