Keith,
I have been in business since 79, and have seen lots of downturns. In the past, I would agree with you, folks didnt build the new house, they worked on what they had. We were always busy during those periods. The new home guys were screaming, and becoming remodelers (sorta).
This one has been different, as homeowners were also seeing the value of their homes plumet, as well as their assets and their equity. They froze, like the deer in the headlights. After this weekend, it felt like they might be starting to shake off the lethargy and get on with it.
I think the best thing people could do is to stop listening to the news, and getting panicked over other peoples problems and focus on their own situation.
Tim
