Yes, you can upgrade the PW01 Locker with any sline/diameter side gears that ARB offers for the D44 application. I think that I sold 1 3/8", 35 spline side gears to one buyer of the PW01.
I personally wouldn't spent the money on custom axle shafts without upgrading the spider gears - it is a great opportunity to stregthen the overall axle assembly.
