What carb do you have on your truck? If you have one of the early ones with a vacuum accelerator pump, you may not have flooded it. You can pump all you want and you will not get gas to squirt down the barrel unless the truck is running.
The last time that happened to me (as you describe), it was a condenser that went bad. It was the first of two I have worn out in 29 years.
