Just take it apart, clean and replace bad parts. Even if you free it up and used it, mostly it will have a very short life. You can soak the steel in a solution of muratic acid (10 parts water to 1 part acid) to remove the rust, then wash parts in a good mixture of soda ash to neutralize the acid. You place any of the syncro rings in the acid and there gone.
