diesel conversion

I know the purists are wrinkling their noses in disgust at this question, but nonetheless, I would like to get some feedback on the possibility/probability/doability of converting a PW over to a diesel engine. Who, what, when, where & why is greatly appreciated by anyone who has tried and succeeded/failed in this endeavor.
