For those of you that may have to repair a worn spring eye hole – I believe the pedals are made of cast steel.
Today I repaired a clutch pedal that had a fairly worn spring eye hole. I started with E6013 rod but ended up with a crack in the center of the weld each time after welding. I started on one side, welded, then drilled through from the opposite side to maintain the integrity of the eye hole. After welding each side I still had a crack in the weld’s center. I switched to machineable nickel rod and no more cracks. Built up the backside of the eye hole to thicken it and then ground down the extra metal, sides and back, to the thickness I wanted. Now it should last another 65 years.
