Depends on what you want it for. I would not want a winch without a "power out" capability. It's hard to unreel a winch cable by hand unless everything is perfect. Any snarles, dirt, or thick grease, or poor traction for the puller and it gets pretty hard to pull. For everything else, I would thin one-direction only would be okay -- maybe even better because you couldn't accidentally run it backwards.
