I have a '91 Cummins. Like Aaron said, remove the water trap/fuel filter and check to see if there's diesel in there (Check the owner's manual for the location). You may have to do quite a bit of cranking to get the engine started again. I have changed the fuel filter myself several times with only one bad experience. One time I did have a bad time starting, and drained the battery several times over a two day period just cranking it over. I had to recharge the battery for several hours every time it wouldn't start. Priming by hand with the pump lever does help, but it sounds like the newer models don't have the pump lever (why would they take that off?).
Anyway, It should start eventually if you have fuel in the filter.
Hindsight is 20/20, but never run out of fuel with a diesel......
