We were all poor then. Gas shortages, double-digit inflation, the Boeing depression ("Will the last person to leave Seattle please turn out the lights?), disco music, Jimmy Carter lecturing us about malaise (or was that Gerry Ford?). Nobody could afford a new truck. If we bought anything new it was a Pinto, a Nova, a Gremlin, or a Pacer. You don't see any of them around any more either. We hated them, but it was either that or a rice wagon, and we were still trying to be patriotic. Okay, so I was only 14 in 1973, but that's sort of what I remember of it.
