There is a great story about that, apparently some coon hunters in Florida were losing dogs. So, one of the guys put a tracking collar (like you mention) on his dog. After this dog became lost they went out searching, and found the signal coming from a hole...apparently a big gator had eaten several of the dogs! Not sure if the story is true but a good story nonetheless.
