T-111 is 5/8" plywood with grooves cut in it to look sort of like boards. It was the popular cheap exterior siding until LP siding and then Hardi-Plank came along. The stuff that swells up is based on sodium silicate. It would probably even be possible to dump a quart of sodium silicate in a gallon of latex paint and have something similar. The trouble is, no matter how you figure it, plywood is combustible. Once the fire gets behind it anywhere, it's all gone.
