I've been soaking a piece of heavy-duty packing foam in a can of gasoline for the past day, and it didn't dissolve or soak up the gas. So, I'm going to simply cut a piece the size of my old cork float, stick the wire through the middle of it, and see how it does. If it works, it'll sure be a simple fix.
