There is a guy who frequents this forum (Scott W) who has shortened his frame on a W500 to install a 9' bed. It does look pretty cool. I contemplated the same thing for my '69 W500 and decided against it, simply wanting to keep it original. I have thought of building a custom box, with storage compartments, etc., but the flatbed is pretty handy just as it is.
