Saturday was not a good day. I took the 51 PW out. I picked up some sheet rock and insulation for the heat ducts. Coming up the hill out of town as always I shift into 3rd and near the top I shift into 4th. This time I hit the clutch to shift into fourth and the clutch peddle would not depress at all. I pushed a couple of times and no joy. I it the gas a couple of time to see if I could break someting loose. Again no joy. Pushed on the clutch again and heard a tinkle then a rattle and I headed to the side of the road. Sounded like something in the bell housing. I suspect that the clutch pressure plate broke/jammed. The rattle I heard may have been either a pressure plate spring or a finger coming loose and falling to the bottom of the bell housing. There was no warning, not previous symptoms just no clutch movement all at once. I do not believe that anything fell into the linkage but it might have but then I would not have had the noise in the bell housing.
Tow truck time. I called and the guy just did not want to believe that I had a 51 Dodge 1 ton PU with 4 X 4. He did not believe that they made them or that it was a modified truck (which they will not tow). Tow truck driver was great. He got me home just as the snow started to fall.
I have not looked at the truck yet. Too cold and it is snowing and I had other things that needed to be done.
