The short sighted enginnering problem with the 230 type Dodge six is the close relationship of the fuel pump to the exhaust manifold. The heat shield being a poor fix. Keep a spare pump under the seat,or an electric pump installed. These pumps work best and last longer if they are mounted as close to the tank as possible.They are made to push fuel not really to draw it.
