I can see your reasons for not helping, but I would have at least stopped. Here are 2 stories:
1. I know a farmer who stopped to help a stranger get unstuck and he ended up being an absentee landlord and the guy rented the farmer 600 acres of ground because of that chance encounter.
2. A guy more like your buddy got his new Caddy stuck in the snow and went to a farmhouse for help. The farmer kindly offered help. The guy kept talking about his "new $20,000 Caddy" and was so worried the farmer would be jerky with the tractor and hurt his car. By the time the car was pulled out the farmer had heard "$20,000" so often that he finally said "Don't worry, I don't want to hurt my HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLAR TRACTOR EITHER!!!"
