The same drive gear works with several different driven gears. And the same NP 200 transfer case was used in many different trucks. My spare tc is from a Jeep M-715, and has a 17 tooth gear, which would slow down the speedo- good if you went to 15" passenger car tires? But I'll betcha that NP used the same gears in other models, looks the same as the 205 parts...
My parts book shows the drive gear as 4 teeth on the 5.89 trucks, and 5 teeth on the 4.89, and 14, 15, or 16 teeth pinions.
I would need a 13 tooth pinion. My neighbor has a spare NP205...
Easy access to the driven gear/pinion can be had by removing the parking brake. (Easy?)
To change the drive gear in the truck, you would need to remove the conical cover/retainer to pull some bearings , and be verrry careful not to pull the shaft out or you will lose the loose little roller bearings into the transfer case, with possible hazardous consequence if one jams up the transfer case going down the road. Not recommended, total tear down would be required to make sure there aren't any left in the tc.
