It sure is nice when the (relatively) easy option works. I have done that to many a door in a junkyard to get them open, though sometimes I have to use a handle off another truck on the outside and a pair of vice grips on the inside.
I bought a set of those screw outs, but I have never had a need for them yet. They just looked neat.
