The rear holes were so far rearward, the hitch would have to be huge?
Perhaps one of those sliding rearward units for short beds when you turn? There is a small dent in the tailgate just above the handle, that might be because of someone not having the trailer jacked up high enough, or dropping the tail gate soon enough.
