I used those white 2x4s from Home Depot, and one sheet of 1/2" plywood. Drywall screwed together, so I could easily remove the screws and re-use the components. Even the screws. Some additional blocks to the sides allowed the fenders to get lag bolted on, plus their stock bracket/running board attachments.
I'd say that the stock bed, complete with oak, weighs 1,000 pounds.
