I remember when I was about 11 years old riding in the front passenger seat of our 54 Willys wagon with my mom. Next thing I remember was the hood coming up and blocking the windshield. She was doing 45 to 50 when it happened. She just tilted her head down and looked through the gap between the hood and the front cowl.
Apparently this was not too uncommon in older cars before they had the "second" latch on the hood.
