Advertisements are usually legitimate; it’s the play on words that you have to pay attention to. Awhile back there was a Toyota Tundra commercial that made me steam under the collar. As per their usual approach they show the truck doing seemingly incredible tasks that only a Toyota could do. The narrator is stating that the truck is equipped with the most horsepower available in a standard equipped V8 pick-up in its class. The ad makes the Tundra sound like the most powerful pickup truck available on the planet. In reality Ford, Dodge & GM all have available V8’s that are more powerful ….It’s just that the “standard” equipment V8’s of the Big three are smaller displacement & lower Hp.”
So I response to what you heard on TV most likely one claims the best mileage in the “standard equipment engine” (V6) class & the other has the best economy in the “standard V8” class). Most importantly all advertisements avoid the fact that there is an available Diesel that gets as good as or better than even a base engine V6.
