I have a 2001 6 speed and it is a very good truck.
Two issues with these second gen trucks.
One is the front end (on 4X4), will probably need the track bar fix along with your inspection for loose things up front.
Two is the fuel delivery. Does it still have the original lift pump?
If so, that may be ready to die.
In addition to the Dodge warranty fix lift pump in the fuel tank, I have an auxillary frame mounted lift pump I got from BD diesel and it works well to increase the pressure at the injector pump. Along with this you will also need a fuel pressure gauge, as the 2nd gen injector pump will fail if the lift pump does not produce adequate fuel (lubrication ) to it.
Aside from these two things no problems with mine.
