You might consider running XP in a virtual machine as opposed to dual booting. With a virtual machine you can run both at the same time and it's much easier to set up.
Using a virtual machine does require decent hardware specs since you'll be dedicating some system resources to both machines when they are both running.
A virtual machine also gives you the ability to run additional operating systems if you like to play with other operating systems such as Linux.
A virtual machine also won't damage your existing system if you make a mistake while installing.
VMWare is nice, but Virtual PC comes with Windows and is free. I think VMWare may have a free version, but I'm not sure-I haven't used it for a year or so.
