DC magnet circuits tend to suffer from a phenominon called multipathing. Without going into a lot of scientific crap nobody understands, the simple answer is wiring.
On multi axel units it is very beneficial that every wire be of the same length. When I wire up a set of axels I premake the splice and solder the connection. Then I take a pair of wires to each magnet and solder that connection too. I live in NY, so soldering splices is the only way to go.
