I suppose that's one way of looking at it. I've heard the same thing said about U-joints. On the other hand, a stock M37 is very unlikely to break anything in the drive train no matter how you abuse it. Unlike modern trucks, it isn't strong enough to tear itself apart. Of course if you put oversized tires on it and get them spinning as you hop across rocks at a ridiculous speed, or you put a V8 in it, then sure you can break things. My M37 has a rather tired 230 in it, so it's definitely not overpowered. I don't haul any serious loads in it, but what I do use if for a lot is skidding logs. Sometimes the front of a log will snag on something and give a pretty sharp jerk to the drive train. With no weight in the back, pretty much all the log-dragging force comes from the front axle. I'm thinking that's what will break the hubs if anything does. I think I'd best find a spare 9/16 wrench and throw it under the seat with the stock hubs.
