I agree.
I would love to have a restored PW and M37 but instead the vehicles I have are way more useful. One is a 1949 B-1 PW that had a canadian Chrysler industrial engine in it when I got it. When that engine threw a rod, I put a 304ci IHC V-8 in it. I ran the original tranny for awhile but switched to an IH T-98 4-speed to have synchro gears. This truck looks original except for the 11.00-18 Gama goat tires. The body has no rust and no big dents, I have not painted it because it is a utility vehicle and gets used. I also aquired a 1952 M-37 with no bed, a rusted out cab, and no engine. That one got a 266ci IHC V-8 and a Chrysler 727 automatic trans. The cab was bad so we ended up putting the cab and front clip from a 1955 IH pickup on it, and made the box from a 1948 IH pickup with 1953 IH fenders. The end result is a truck that has more power than an M-37, a way more comfortable cab, but retains all the durability of the M-37.
My little brother has a 1967 IHC pickup with a Chrysler 440, 727 auto, NP 205, and Powerlocked Dana 70's front and rear with 36" Super Swampers, but that belongs on a different forum.
I think it is a crime to cut up a pristine old truck, but modifying to improve the function of our trucks is fine as long as the form is retained.
