Solder a 50 Volt 1 Amp Diode in the wire from the
ammeter to your #1 spade connection.

Radio Shack sells a pack of (2) for $.99
Radio Shack part number 276-1101A.

Be sure to wire it so the cathode is on the alternator
side of the connection. The cathode end of the
diode is marked with a stripe.
