the diff does NOT supply oil to the hubs.
the diff needs 90-120 lbs gear lub
the hubs take standard wheel bearing grease.
1.purchase new grease seals, and wheel bearing nut lock tabs.
2. purchase 2 pounds of high temp wheel bearing grease
3. dissassemble and clean - clean means CLEAN
try brake solvent as a final cleaner
4. inspect the bearings and races - if there is pitting on either bearing replace BOTH bearings in a hub.
5. pack each bearing - buy a wheel bearing packer
it saves time and #$%#$%%^%^$^.
6.pack each hub 1/2 to 3/4 (MAX) full. DO NOT FILL THE HUBS COMPLETELY FULL. 1/2 is better than 3/4!!!!!. distribute the grease evenly around the inside of the hub.
7: reassemble - if you use a dial indicator to set the bearing clearances the hub will run cooler and the tolerantes will last longer.
8. Readjust the brakes !!!!!! and park brake!!!!!
time - 2 to 4 hours minimum to do a good job.
new lock tabs may be available at napa]
if yours are sad, replace them
good luck and have fun
