MBZ diesels

Has anybody tried the Benz diesels in PW applications? They are
cheap and plentiful where I live (4/5/6 cyls. under $300) and
the 6 cyls. will haul a(n)MBZ Unimog 2 ½ Ton around with aplomb.
Any feedback on this? Am I losing it or what?
