A friend of mine used to race these engines back
in the fifties. His dad had a junk yard and his
profession was engine rebuilding so he did a cer-
tain amount of experimentation. He discovered
that most blocks would bore to 3 9/16, giving
283 cubic inches or so. He tried going out to
3 5/8 but found that head gaskets were nearly im-
possible to hold.
If you have access to a parts book from the '50s,
you will find that the V8 Dodge 241 has a bore the
same size as the 265 and the wrist-pins are the
same size and fit; the Plymouth 259 V8 has a
3 9/16 bore with the same pin. These V8 pistons
have the pin located 1/4" higher than the flathead
six, so the rods for the 237 would be the correct
length. I don't know what the balance situation
might be. Hope this is at least of interest, if
not helpful.
