You are probably correct. One of the brake line connectors coming off the device went to the rear brake line. The other was disconnected so I don't know where it went. It probably went to the rear for the trailer hook up. Does the rheostat act like a proportioning valve?
I've only used trailers with surge brakes and haven't had a chance to use one where the trailer brakes are controlled by the truck. At least not yet. It looks like they are controlled electronically on today's smaller 3/4 and 1 ton trucks. Would this old system connect to the trailer kind of like today's large eighteen wheelers?
