I had a 76 Scout Traveler. The long wheel base version. It was an excellent truck. Never a problem mechanically and the body was sound mechanically. They do leak and rust. The only way they do not is in the desert in a barn. They are a tough truck. If you do not mind a little rust your golden. The windshield leaks at the lower bottom corner where there is a seam in the cowel. That is the source of the fron floors getting wet under the floor mat. Injet a little silicon or sealant in the seam under the winshield gasket. It took me a long time to find that leak. Once fixed the front floors were dry.

They have Dana 44 axles which are great for that size truck. Mine had a 4 speed manual trans and I goe 12 MPG in town and 16 on the freeway. I also had the 345 V8.

I have a pair of axles from an 1980 Scout II Diesel (again dana 44s) that I am putting under my Willys Wagon. The front is a direct bolt in and the rear I will use new spring mounts as the Willys springs are wider than the Scout. The front axles from the 80 Scouts are different in that they have an increased caster from earlier years. This will reduce the amount of wandering the truck will do down the road. My 76 wandered with bias ply tires but was much better with radial tires. This is the Willys truck that I am putting the 4BT into.
