But perhaps the split-ring predates drop-centers?
I saw a 1930 +/- Ford express delivery yesterday that had 6.00x20's, on 5 hole Budds. Narrow rings, like on our '41s.
Split ring rims were a big step forward from solid tires and wooden spokes.
