It's kind of a deceiving picture,(the battery one) but I assume the + terminal is going to the solenoid. The connection at the alternator should run through an ammeter, but for testing this will work, The "s" terminal on the solenoid should have power when the key is turned to start. Check circuts with a 12v test lamp. ignor the "I" terminal.
